Sand Gate

Sand Gate is one of two fortified gates into the coastal city of Alkhalend, positioned on the eastern side of the bay where the city meets the Sand Lanes, beneath cliff forts that overwatch the shoreline. The newer and less ornate of Alkhalend's two landward entrances, it is distinguished by gun emplacements oriented in both directions-facing outward against besiegers and inward against forces that have already breached the walls-making it the most heavily armed and tactically forbidding of the city's two gates. Its western counterpart, Emor (gate), shares the cliff-fort overwatch but not this reciprocal firepower.

In Days of Shattered Faith, Sand Gate occupies the central position in the Palleseen allied strategy for retaking Alkhalend, which has fallen to Gorbudan's occupation from the north. Flint, commanding the expeditionary force, fixes on a night assault through the gate as the decisive manoeuvre, and the tactical problem of its two-directional guns becomes the narrative's sharpest military obstacle. Simultaneously, the gate draws demonic activity into the Sand Lanes district, converting it from a purely strategic objective into a site of supernatural convergence.
