They are, in the eyes of the state, tools of extraordinary tactical value wielded at the cost of an extraordinary perceptual deviation: the training reshapes how its practitioners see reality, and that reshaping is precisely what makes them expendable once the war that required them is over. Their arc across the book is one of utility curdling into threat. As the conflict winds down, the Temporary Commission moves to identify, cull, and liquidate them, treating their unorthodox cognition as a security risk identical in kind to the post-war purges of the Hospitallers and the Fisher King devotees after the Loruthi war.
