Hakoran is an Emorandi officer who appears briefly in Days of Shattered Faith as the commander of the right flank of Gorbudan's army during the first engagement of the Brothers' War, fought in the forests and open ground south of the Peor border. He is a figure of the Alkhalend military command structure, answerable to the Alkhand and, through him, to Gorbudan as the crowned heir who leads the advance. His role in the narrative is singular and brief: he holds his position, meets the first deployment of demons in Pal uniforms emerging from the woods, fires his baton at the lead creature, and watches his line - built from cousins and peasants - shatter under a supernatural assault it cannot withstand.

Though Hakoran's on-page presence amounts to a single chapter, his perspective crystallises a recurring thematic concern of the novel. The narrator renders his perception of the demons as an offence against the natural order, a thing whose duty is to be sent to oblivion. In this framing, Hakoran becomes a lens through which the novel tests its characters' metaphysical assumptions: where other officers confront the demonic with bewilderment or terror, Hakoran meets it as a soldier meets an aberration to be corrected by force. His line holds long enough to kill before it breaks, and the battle descends into a grinding stalemate from which Gorbudan ultimately withdraws to Alkhalend.
